Sector moves were mixed, with retailers among the worst performers.

Furniture seller Nick Scali tumbled after a profit warning as shoppers have become more cautious with their spending.

That news weighed on other retail names, including Harvey Norman and Temple & Webster.

Fortescue was also lower after its quarterly update and Woodside was another wait, despite oil prices pushing higher.

On the other hand, data centre operator NextDC bounced back after plunging more than 40 per cent yesterday.

And the major banks also had a good day, helping to offset some of the losses elsewhere.

The Aussie dollar is now above $US0.70.
