Former NRL star Nathan Merritt has pleaded guilty to drug and gun offences, with his lawyer revealing the Rabbitohs legend has just months to live as he fights aggressive cancer.
Once at home in the spotlight, Merritt wanted little to do with it outside court on Monday, refusing to answer questions from reporters as he left the Downing Centre.

The former NRL star pleaded guilty to having drugs and a gun in his bedroom after police searched his home last month.
Officers had been investigating a ram raid at the luxury Fendi store in Sydney’s CBD and followed the alleged thieves as they drove to Merritt’s apartment block.
While Merritt isn’t accused of any involvement in the store heist, a search of his unit uncovered 12 grams of cocaine and a gel blaster.

Merritt’s lawyer pleaded with the court for leniency, saying his client is terminally ill with just nine months left to live.
Earlier this year, Merritt revealed his shock diagnosis.
“I’ve been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and oesophagus and liver cancer,” he said.
His father told 7NEWS the charges weren’t ideal for his health.
“I think it’s taken its toll on him,” he said.
Merritt was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order and fined $100.
