Austral Herbs Certified Organic Premium Peppermint Leaf recalled over metal contamination

A peppermint product sold across Australia has been recalled after metal contamination was detected.

Greenstorm Foods, trading as Austral Herbs, is recalling several sizes of its Certified Organic Premium Peppermint Leaf (Mentha piperita), according to an alert issued by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).

The recall affects 250g, 1kg, 5kg and 10kg packages marked with a best-before date of April 2, 2029.

The products have been available online and through independent food retailers in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.

FSANZ said the recall was prompted by the presence of foreign matter — specifically metal — and warned consumers not to eat the affected product.

Anyone who has purchased the product should return it for a full refund.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” FSANZ said.
