Singapore Airlines’ $2.2bn upgrade includes seats that remember you

First and business class lounge chairs that remember your settings and apply them next time you fly are highlights of a seemingly impressive new on-board experience coming to Singapore Airlines.

The company will start a $2.2 billion refurbishment of 41 of its Airbus A350-900s and its new Boeing 777-9s to include all new seats in First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class.

The airline expects the renewal program to begin in the second half of 2027.

Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer at Singapore Airlines, said: “Singapore Airlines’ next-generation long-haul cabin products will ensure that our customers travel more comfortable than before, and have greater control over their in-flight experience.”

More than 5000 frequent flyers, staff, and industry experts were consulted about the designs for the new seats.

The business class suites appear to solve a common complaint about the current seat design in which customers sleep on – for some – an uncomfortable angle.

At this stage, Melbourne is the only Australian city in line for the upgraded cabins due to the type of aircraft flown there (A350-900LR) being the only sub-type used on Australian flights to enjoy the upgrade.

Publisher at Executive Traveller, Sid Raja, told 7NEWS: “We talk to almost every major airline that flies to Australia and they all tell us that the premium cabins are the first to fill and are incredibly popular.”
